Current Situation
Coastline Christian School was having an awful time trying to update their site on the Wix platform and content was lacking, or worse, out of date. Reachpoint suggested migrating to a self-hosted WordPress environment so they would have full control and unlimited customizability.
After our initial conversations, we realized a new homepage was needed to help generate enrollment, tours and inquiries to join, our primary objective. The secondary objective was to simplify the process of updating content and layout.
Our Solution
We started the migration process first, creating page and section templates to contain the incoming content. Next, we had to copy and paste all the website text and download and upload all the images to the new site because Wix does not provide a way to export any of the data, another Wix negative.
The agreement was to keep the existing design, just migrate the data, but we over deliver, and while performing the migration our team modified pieces or sections of the layout to better serve Coastline’s website visitors.
While the migration was in full swing, we began the homepage design process. With any redesign, we always first look at statistics. Our findings showed 85% of users were new visitors and 15% were returning. Also, 55% of all visitors were visiting using their mobile phones.
Our homepage design goal: Simply put, design for new parents on mobile phones.
Nothing comes that easily though. Before any visual design, we review stats, competitors, sketch different layout scenarios, wireframe and then begin the visual design.
For a parent looking at schools for their kid(s), it was critical they knew immediately what Coastline was all about. The new, redesigned homepage lays that out systematically:
- An engaging video, showing school in session. The video stops the visitor to learn more
- The following two sections follows that path…to learn more, who is Coastline and what do they stand for
- Following are two sections that show the school is active. These sections are for both visitors, new and returning.
- The school can prove to parents their success with testimonials
- And finally, a call to action to visit the campus
